The previous post [The Magician and The Priestess: A Case for Ladies First in Tarot] introduced the idea of aligning the Major Arcana sequence with the occult order of the Planets. To supplement this, I would like to share a video I recorded a few years ago. I go into the basic building blocks that make up the symbols for the seven classical planets. This comes from the old Hermetic Alchemy system. I also discuss other interesting bits of arcane knowledge on the planets. Please leave a comment so we can discuss this further!
Jeremy Crow is a Left Hand Path occultist, community organizer, writer & musician. He has been practicing occult arts such as lucid dreaming and tea leaf divination since childhood. As a teen he began to practice ritual magick & Tarot. He was raised to the degree of Master Mason in the Ancient & Primitive Rite of Memphis Misraïm. Was mentored by Tau Cerinthus, Gnostic Bishop of Canada, resulting in Jeremy being ordained a Priest, initiated into the Martinist Order to the degree of S::I:: & Knighted in the Portugal lineage of the Knights Templar Order. Jeremy has also held officer’s roles in several Esoteric Orders including the Golden Dawn & the O.T.O. In 2002 Jeremy began writing and sharing articles & lessons on Gnostic Luciferianism. He became a founding member of Electro-Industrial music project “Pleasure The Priestess,” delved deeply into Taoist Tantra and received mentorship in lab & internal alchemy by Rubaphilos. He then joined the Ordo Luciferi and went on to become the Order’s new Grand Councilor. He founded the Luciferian Research Society (LRS), a non-hierarchical collective of artists from every branch of the Left Hand Path. Jeremy is the host of the LRS Podcast and manifested the 1st International Left Hand Path Conference of 2012 in Toronto, Canada. Jeremy is a Co-President (aka "Archon") of the Assembly of Light Bearers and operates a local branch in Toronto, Canada. He is also the founder of the Ziggurat of Enki and the Titanic Order of Prometheus, Esoteric Orders dedicated to working with and further realizing the New Luciferian Era.
Even the outer planets have those same three components.
Neptune is the crescent above the cross, creating a trident.
Pluto’s ordinary symbol is a P and L combined, but its esoteric symbol is a crescent above the cross with a circle inside the crescent unattached to the rest of the figure.
Uranus’s ordinary symbol is an H for Herschel, its discoverer, above a cross. It sort of looks like an antenna. But according to Keith Nicholson in his book “Above, Below, Within: Planetary Magick and the Greek Gods”, the name of the planet Uranus was a mistake. He writes on page 165:
“The planet Uranus was given its name solely on unscholarly deduction. It was the first planetary body to be discovered since ancient times; hence, its erroneous name in Greek, and Titanic representation. However, the erroneous naming procedure continues further than was once supposed. According to astrologist, author, and professor Richard Tarnas, had the planet been discovered in antiquity, it would have been given the proper name Prometheus. Tarnas’ thesis asserts that succession in the family tree to be the logical course, i.e., the lesser gods (inner planets) were birthed by Jupiter, and Saturn being the next outer planet, then Saturn’s father should be the next outer planet. Tarnas has published his findings in two books: ‘Cosmos and Psyche’ and ‘Prometheus the Awakener’. His findings have exceptional merit and address the archetypical features of Prometheus versus Uranus.”
So if Prometheus is the true name for the planet Uranus, we find that the symbol for this planet is similar to Mars, except that the arrow (cross) is pointing straight up above the circle, and there is a dot in the middle of the circle.
Thanks so much for this comment! So much good stuff in there.
I haven’t really spent very much time working with the outer planets. That’s very interesting that they kept the same basic construction. As far as Pluto, both of the symbols actually fit the pattern. The one that looks like a P and L combined can be considered a crescent and square/cross.
I had never heard of the Uranus as Prometheus idea, but considering my affinity for Prometheus I immediately like the idea! haha. That’s cool. It’s almost like Prometheus is the secret identity of Uranus. Thanks again for sharing! I’m definitely inspired to look further into this concept.
Among other things, I’m an astrologer so the outer planets are important for me, though on a more mass or generational scale than the inner personal planets. As for Uranus being Prometheus, it does fit better than Uranus. For one thing, this planet has to do with rebellion, excitement, sudden happenings, new ideas, intellect, and other such Promethean elements. And it rules Aquarius, a humanitarian and humanist sign of progressiveness and evolutionary advancement.
But when we take this into the deities that are represented, the Titan Uranus is rather conservative and unbending. Its why he tried to destroy the next generation of gods by swallowing them, for he resisted the change that they represented. Prometheus, on the other hand, is rebellious, adventurous, daring and has concern and good will towards mankind. Uranus couldn’t care less about mankind. So the correct name for this planet is Prometheus.
